Compton Martin Players 2023

Robin Hood and the Babes in the Woods

A new wind has blown through the Compton Martin Players hailing a bright new future of pantomimes and plays. Their first pantomime, after COVID, was Robin Hood and the Babes in the Woods, which was performed in Compton Martin village hall on the last weekend of November 2023. This was a glorious celebration, rich in colour, original musical numbers and family friendly humour.

It was a delight to see new members beside our veteran members, all enjoying themselves. A special well done must go to Robin Hood, Dennis, Nanny, Friar Tuck and Joan, who supported the new members of the cast extremely well.  It was a delight to see young children on the stage for the first time. They were all brilliant and we hope to see them again. A special well done to some of our new members ~ Dominic, Emma, Mia, Manon, Wilfred and two particularly good soldiers with attitude! We hope to see them tread the boards again very soon.

An enjoyable extra was the great use of the back stage crew who expertly changed the scenes in full view of the audience. Their comical timing and changing of headgear was both entertaining and very clever.

This production showed the great diversity of talent we have in Compton Martin from actors, directors, costume ladies, backstage crew who paint, hammer, shift, climb ladders etc. and of course our wonderful musical duo of Rachel and Paul Bramston. A special mention to Toby and Keith who provided the lights and all their expertise and to Andy and Janie Griffiths who revived the Compton Martin players, dusted them down and set too, to produce a great pantomime~ we couldn’t have managed without you!

I am very much looking forward to the Compton Martin Players next production now that they have unleashed all this talent!
